Welcome to my website, woolgatheredapps.co.uk. My name is Graham T. Spence and this site is home to my app development activities. My first game, Swirling, is out now!
Please visit the Swirling page for more information.
Why ‘woolgathered’? Wool-gathering has been and still is used as a term to describe idle daydreaming. I’m a firm believer that the creative process involves quite a bit of daydreaming. Take, for example, the popular story of how the ring structure of benzene was discovered in which the German chemist August Kekulé was daydreaming when he imagined a snake coiling up and holding its tail in its own mouth. You never know where a bit of woolgathering might lead! My current and future apps hope to rely on a good bit of woolgathering to develop ideas for original content for entertainment and education.
For those interested in the image used at the top of the page, if it wasn’t for a bit of daydreaming and window-gazing, I would never have observed the stunning cloud formation. The photograph was taken on a winters day in Northern England (20th January, 2013) with temperatures below freezing, a light snow covering and a gentle to moderate breeze. I think the formation is an example of a Kelvin-Helmholtz instability. Unfortunately the peaks never rolled-up significantly. But please post a comment to my blog page if you think otherwise!
